Carrie and Garret invited us up for some Halloween fun this past Saturday. Since we haven’t had a chance to get our pumpkins yet, we stopped at a nearby farm with a pumpkin patch and family activities on Sunday. Although it rained heavily the night before, it ended up being a beautiful fall day!

Alstan’s Choir Concert
Alstan had his first choir concert last night. He was pretty nervous ahead of time, but did a great job. It just so happened that the high school gym had a scheduling conflict, so the concert was moved to the Mineral Point Opera House!

Day 2 of Inktober
Elsie did a drawing of Santa writing out his list with a little elf that stepped in the ink.

Inktober Challenge
Mom got out her pen and ink sets. She was inspired by the worldwide challenge called Inktober. The idea is that artist do an ink drawing every day for the month of October as a fun way to encourage people to practice their drawing skills. We may not stick with it for the whole month, but we had fun trying out the pens tonight.

Walking to School
This morning mom had an early morning dentist appointment that meant the kids had to go to school on their own. This was the first time letting them walk to school by themselves. They were all excited, while mom watched until she couldn’t see them anymore.

1st Year at the Fair
Alstan and Elsie decided to join 4-H this year. Part of our duties as a 4-H family was to work the concession stand for two hours during the fair. Dad and the kids did a great shop of running the donut stand portion! The kids had a good first year exhibiting with Alstan entering a ceramic dinosaur and photos of animals from our trip to Costa Rica and Elsie entering baked cookies and an apron she sewed.

First Day of School
Mom and the kids had to go back to school a week before dad this year, so dad was able to drive the kids to their first day. He didn’t feel like walking all the way to the building in the rain though, so he caught some photos to show the lovely weather on the first day of school.

Camping with Their Buds
We finished off our summer break with a camping trip at Blackhawk Lake. Alstan and Elsie had been talking about getting together with their friends from Lisa’s (their babysitter) all summer. We finally got something planned for the very last weekend before school started. They had a great time biking, fishing, swimming and just plain playing ‘til the sun went down.
The bottom photo is of Alstan after he fell off the dock.
