He's been fighting sleep a little bit lately, but like in these pictures he gets there after a little work. Except, on Sunday night, when he was awake from 1 to 5 a.m. For whatever reason, he decided he wasn't tired and I learned a couple things. One, McDonald's is not open 24 hours in Dodgeville. The other is that using the car to get Alstan to sleep worked... until the car stopped.

Sleep Alstan Sleep
He's been fighting sleep a little bit lately, but like in these pictures he gets there after a little work. Except, on Sunday night, when he was awake from 1 to 5 a.m. For whatever reason, he decided he wasn't tired and I learned a couple things. One, McDonald's is not open 24 hours in Dodgeville. Bath
I love giving him the little afro, unfortunately it only lasts about 10-15 minutes. As soon is anyone touches it or he goes into the car seat it flattens out.
He also went to physical therapy on Monday for torticollis, which just means one neck muscle is a little tighter than the other and he cocks his head (like in the photos). Whoops, I'm supposed to fix his head positioning when he does that instead of take pictures. Anyway, we just have a couple stretches and massages we have to do and he shouldn't have to go back for it again.

Daddy's Babysitter
The mobile isn't really my babysitter, but he sure loves to watch it and it does help me get laundry done. Jessie made it through her first week back at school, although she was pretty tired by Friday. Alstan and I made it through our first week too. I was a little nervous because I always had Jessie around as a safety net. It has been a great time for me, and since Alstan can't disagree with me yet, it's been a great time for him too.
This weekend we went to Aunt Carrie's graduation. He had the two rows behind us enamored for most of the event. He was looking over Mom's shoulder and smiling at them.

Van Overmeer Build
Alstan went to the doctor today to get measured and get his shots. He now weighs 11 lb. 15 oz., which is 3 pounds more than when he was born. He also is 22 inches long now, one inch longer than when he born. His weight was in the 50th percentile and his height is in the 25th percentile. Not like he ever had a chance, but he's short and squatty already. Short was inevitable, but I thought maybe he'd get Jessie's genes for the build.
The pictures:
Jessie is going to the chiropractor tonight. I wonder if working out with Alstan had anything to do with it? He actually likes riding along with her.
The second picture is Alstan's airplane imitation.
The third is Alstan and I beginning our time together. I didn't get to sleep long, but it was a good day.

Another Video
Hello again! I'm not sure how many videos I'll be able to add, because they take up quite a bit of space. Here's one that is a little bit longer that we took earlier this week.
Tomorrow I'll be able to update Alstan's size and weight after his doctor's appointment.

Video
It's like a posting marathon. Here is a short video of Alstan smiling and playing. He has really started making a lot of noises in the last day or two.
Future Personality???
We took a baby personality quiz at www.justmommies.com to see what Alstan's personality would be like. I'm sure this is fool proof. He does sound a little bit like his boring parents though, who go to sleep before all their retired neighbors in the area. Here are the results:
He will be very dependable and responsible; the type that likes to make his parents proud. You can expect him to be able to handle stress and pressure well. He will not be the one you have to worry about. He is sensitive, friendly and caring. He doesn't like to stand out or draw attention. He is not likely to take a leadership position. He prefers to be the one that works in the background. In his attempt to be likable, he may cave in to peer pressure in his teens. However, he is not rebellious and cares about making his parents happy as much as he does his friends.
As an adult, he will likely go to college and pursue a stable job. He is not the type that will flip flop around in his career choices. He will pick something he thinks he will do well at and stick with it. Possible careers are laboratory technician, computer programmer, physical therapist, or mechanic/machinist, or join the armed forces.
No pressure Alstan!

Two Months Old
Alstan turned two months old yesterday. All is going well, especially for Dad, who is now done with the school year. Jessie will go back to work on Monday (what a Mother's Day treat). Alstan is eating a lot and throwing up a bit the last day or so. He's been getting out of the house more often lately to go shopping or eat ice cream at Culver's, where he saw his cousin Brittney and her boyfriend (even if we didn't know it was her boyfriend).
Check out the one picture where Alstan is playing with the camera case. He also went shopping in Madison with his Mom and Aunt Carrie on Thursday.

Happy Birthday Grandma Van!
Alstan is 8 weeks tomorrow, which means he's 55 days old today. Grandma Van's birthday is today and it got me thinking. He's been alive fewer days than Grandma Van has been years. Don't worry though, he'll pass you in soon Grandma. (Happy Belated Birthday to Grandpa Van too. Alstan was almost half the days old that you are years on your birthday so it wasn't as funny.)
Picture updates on coming on Sunday.
