Happy Birthday Grandma Van!

Alstan is 8 weeks tomorrow, which means he's 55 days old today. Grandma Van's birthday is today and it got me thinking. He's been alive fewer days than Grandma Van has been years. Don't worry though, he'll pass you in soon Grandma. (Happy Belated Birthday to Grandpa Van too. Alstan was almost half the days old that you are years on your birthday so it wasn't as funny.)

Picture updates on coming on Sunday.

Bath Time

I didn't just cover up his privates for modesty. I have a theory that if you keep a warm rag covering the area he won't get cold and go pee. It's probably just luck, but I'll still take credit for it.

Weekly Update

Alstan: He's smiling a lot quicker and easier to people. He's also using his legs a lot more to kick. He is making some cooing sounds, but he likes to grunt more.

Adam: 10 more days of school!

Jessie: Fit into pre-maternity jeans!

Morph

I'm at the class I'm teaching waiting for a few people to finish up so I created a morph of Alstan. Enjoy!

Midweek Post

I liked the spiked hairstyle, but apparently Alstan wasn't as big of a fan. That's what happens when I'm in charge of the bath though.

This is the chance for your input on the blog. If there are any ideas or changes that people have for the blog please add them to the comments (as long as you don't ask to post more!) It won't be long and he'll be moving around more and I'll add some video clips. Also, if you know of anyone else who may want to see the blog (cousins, aunts, or anyone else who seems interested) you can leave their e-mail in the comment section and I'll be glad to add them to the list too. Finally, there's a new survey to the left.

There probably won't be new posts until Sunday as I'm teaching a class this weekend.

Our First Guys Weekend

This is my favorite picture (so far). When I was changing him, he was in a happy mood and smiling at me. I was able to grab the camera next to the computer and got lucky to get a good shot (considering how slow the digital camera takes pictures).

We've spent the weekend watching NBA playoff basketball and warming bottles. He's been really good today, and we took a nap this afternoon.

Jessie is coming home tonight. I'm not sure who will be more excited Alstan or I. I'm sure he'll be happy to have an instant food source again instead of warming bottles. As for me, I haven't showered or gotten anything done around the house except warming bottles every hour or two. I hope he gives her a smile as big as this one.

Interacting

I'm parenting on my own on Friday and Saturday. Jessie is at a conference and it's the first time that she spent a night away. It has been pretty good except for last night when I couldn't get a bottle ready for him in time. By the time I heard him crying, woke up, and heated up the bottle he was pretty upset.

Here are some pictures from today when he was really interacting a lot with me. It is by far the most he's smiled and played with me. He's really moving his arms around a lot now too.

Family Pictures

Alstan wasn't really in the mood for good family pictures, but we tried anyway.

Spring Break Update

Here are a few pictures of Alstan with Mom and Dad over our spring break. Alstan is eating and pooping a lot. He's outgrown several of his 0-3 month clothes already so we have to start looking at the small 3-6 month clothes. Jessie is close to full speed again. She's running around doing laundry and feeling guilty for taking naps. When I start school again next week I'll have less than one month before I go on paternity leave (and Jessie goes back to school).

Playtime

Alstan doesn't really know he's kicking or hitting stuff, but he is really interested interested in the poles that hold up the toys.

Things Are Looking Up

He has been lifting his head up a lot lately. Here is a picture of him lifting his head off the floor.

Alfalfa

Some of Alstan's aunts think they are funny and make Alstan look kind of dorky (or put pictures of him in a dress on facebook!) Well they may be laughing now, but he (or his Dad) will be laughing when the pee, poop, or spit fountain goes off on them. Payback!

As for the fountain, Alstan has been especially fond of the poop fountain lately. I hear most kids like to pee when they get their diaper off, but Alstan likes to poop when his diaper is off.

Father Son

Here are some comparison photos of Alstan and I at the same age. You can vote on which picture is which on a new poll at the left. It may be kind of easy, but vote anyway!

April Updates

We haven't been taking any family photos, so we did a do it yourself one tonight. We'll try to get better ones up before too long. Alstan is lifting his head up a lot now. He's lifting his head of his mom's shoulder fairly often, although he's still pretty shaky. He also smiled today when I was laughing. When Jessie put him in the water he started with a fountain and ended by dirtying the water. I thought this was pretty funny and laughed, and Alstan smiled too. Jessie has said he smiled back at her when she was smiling at him too.

This will probably be the last update until next week. I have parent/teacher conferences tomorrow and then I'm heading to Detroit for the Final Four. I'll make sure Jessie takes pictures so I can add more pictures when I get back.
