Swimming Lessons

Here's Alstan enjoying his first swimming lessons. He didn't get his hair too wet, but he did enjoy the water. The first day was a little bit cold, which made him a little less excited about the pool though.

This week he had a big week with a couple firsts besides swimming lessons. On Sunday we went to Spring Green so he could see his first art fair. There were tons of pictures with tractors, trucks, barns, and animals. All things he loves and would point out. Then we listened to live music for a little while.

He also went to his first movie in a movie theater when we went to Cars 2. He hung in there pretty well, but he lost interest a few times with the James Bond plot.

First Day of Swimming Lessons

The family went to watch Alstan at his first swim lessons. Alstan and Dad went over to the pool with the other kids to get started on his first lesson.

It only took a few minutes to realize that the first set of swimming lessons for a two year old are in the baby pool, not the full sized pool. Who would have guessed it?

Alstan

A real smile! While we get real smiles all the time it's hard to get them on camera these days. The other photo he looks so big!

Alstan having some ice cream with Coltin. Sugar is always a great way to make Alstan your best friend. Aidan got Elsie smiling too and he couldn't even hide from the camera!

Van Overmeer Thighs!

Sorry Elsie, but I'm afraid you have inherited the Van Overmeer thighs or "Thunder Thighs". They are sure cute and squeezable now, but you may not like them as much as a teenager.

Mom and Alstan

I (Adam) have been doing a horrible job of getting Mom in the blog with her two kids. In this photo, you can see where Alstan and Elsie get their good looks.

Sleepy

Is it nap time yet? Elsie doesn't always go down for long naps and can get over tired sometimes, but wow is she a GREAT sleeper at night. Last night she slept all the way through and most nights she only wakes up once to eat then goes back to bed.

Alstan's Big Race

Alstan was in his first race this weekend in North Fond du Lac. He was in the race with Wyverna and Antionette. It was a 1/3 of a mile run, and he did great. He was easily the smallest kid in the race, as you'll see in the video. He ran the entire thing and only cried once... when the race was over and he couldn't keep going. He ended up running a second lap around the block with Mom later though.

Elsie

Elsie rolled from her belly to her back for the first time on Tuesday. Mom was bummed because she missed seeing it happen even though she was right next to her. Mom looked up to watch the TV for a minute and when she looked back, Elsie was on her back.

Elsie at Four Months

Elsie had her four month check up this week. She measured 25 inches and 16 pounds. That put her in the 88th percentile for weight and the 91st percentile for length.

Big Construction Site

Alstan decided the clip for the chip bag made for a good tower building tool. It was pretty impressive how tall he managed to make his tower: he was able to add one more block after the photo was taken before he knocked it down.

Time with Aunt Nette

This past weekend Aunt Nette came to visit and give mom a hand while dad was in Milwaukee teaching a class. Alstan enjoyed practicing his phone conversation skills into his bread, while Aunt Nette replied into her banana phone. If it hadn't been that mom thought Alstan should take his nap, the fun could have lasted all day.

Madison Zoo

These are photos from our recent visit to the zoo. We were amazed at how many animals Alstan remembered seeing. Before going to bed that night, he was listing them off to Adam. (completely unprompted)

Making Coffee

Alstan loves to help mom and dad do anything they will allow him to. Here he is helping mom make some coffee. I wasn't sure if I should label this "Making Coffee" or "Wearing Coffee".
